​On a dark February evening in 1954, a 17 year-old lad caught the Exeter to Bristol express. He never completed his journey. What happened to him on the train would change the life of every gay man in the land...

The more open, free and equal society we know today has a grim history.
Seen through the eyes of two young women caught up in these horrifying real-life events, Critical Moment Theatre presented an online reading from Open Door for LGBTQ+ History Month, in partnership with Somerset NHS Trust in 2021. In 2023, the play was expanded and workshopped at the Young Vic.
